Starting Fresh
EcoFridge was a design project that was started in a Hackathon in 2022. This app would focus on preventing food waste and encouraging users to dispose their food items properly.
I collaborated with two other designers to create a UI mockup for this sustainability project.
Revisiting Old Designs
This project did not progress past the short 3 day span we initially worked on it. However, one of the original collaborators suggested we revisit this project and focus on how we can improve the design and user functionality of this project. We ended up creating our own new versions of this app and went in completely different directions
First, I started by recreating a lo-fi mockup of our app.

Reimagining a Fridge
I gathered feedback on the original design from other students and professors, and one of the commonly heard feedback was that the colors were flat and muted. To combat this, I decided to put a bright green throughout the app with red accents throughout. I also used real images of foods to enhance the overall composition of it looking like an app related to food.
I also decided to change the content of our home page because the same designs were repeated which led to boring, repetitive visuals. I concluded that the home screen should include more eco-friendly content that our app wants to push. Recipes would include only ingredients the user has to encourage them to consume all of their produce; the ways to reduce would provide more insight on how we can develop eco-friendly habits that benefit not only our own households, but the environment as a whole.
Another change made is using technology that scans your food and automatically puts it in your fridge instead of manually inputting each item. Machine learning is incorporated in many modern apps and we felt as though our app should include it as well.
